Breast Imaging Fellowship
Overview:
Thank you for your interest in the Breast Imaging Fellowship Program at Memorial Health in Savannah Georgia. Our program is affiliated with Mercer University School of Medicine and our breast imaging services are provided through the all-digital breast center of excellence. The fellowship program is currently accepting one fellow per year. Our team promotes extensive training in all aspects of breast imaging, including spending time in:
- Breast pathology
- Radiation oncology
- The operating room observing breast surgery and reconstruction
Radiation and oncologic clinics
High-risk breast oncology clinic
The fellow will get in-depth exposure to digital 3D tomosynthesis screening and diagnostic mammography (approximately 15,000 exams per year), ultrasound, contrast enhanced mammography, and MR imaging, breast intervention using state of the art equipment (Hologic 3D prone and upright stereotactic devices with real time specimen confirmation, ultrasound and MRI screening/diagnostic including MRI guided procedures). Total number of breast intervention procedures are approximately 950 per year.
In addition to gaining further expertise in this subspecialty, the fellow will serve as junior faculty, playing a significant role in resident and medical student education.
Schedule:
Nine months of breast imaging and three months of elective services at the discretion of the fellow.
The work day in breast imaging varies depending on the weekday schedule. Routinely the day begins at 7:30am and ends at 4:30pm.
The fellow will be assigned to cover:
- Screening Mammography
- Diagnostic Mammography
- Breast Ultrasound
- Breast MRI
- Imaging guided procedures
- Interdisciplinary breast conference preparation/presentation.
Call:
Designated call with the ability for compensated call.
Department Didactics & Scholarly Activity:
The fellow is expected to teach the residents and medical students at the work station. Prepare and present at the resident didactic lectures, case based conferences and participate in scholarly activity.
Vacation and Conferences:
- 4 weeks of vacation
- 5 days for approved conferences
Academic time:
Academic time is for educational and research purposes at the discretion of the fellowship director.

Dr. Dromi joined faculty in 2018. He played a major role in developing the Breast Imaging Fellowship at Memorial and currently serves as the Fellowship Director. Prior to joining Memorial, Dr. Dromi was the Fellowship Director at the University Of Maryland School Of Medicine. Dr. Dromi’s interests include medical education, all things Breast Imaging related, and quality improvement.

Application timeline and match schedule:
We participate in the Breast Imaging Fellowship Match sponsored by the Society of Breast Imaging (SBI) and it will be managed by the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).
In order to become a Breast Imaging Fellow at MHUMC the applicant will have completed an ACGME accredited diagnostic residency program and will be board certified by the time training begins. You must register with NRMP for the fellowship match NRMP website. The cost of registration is $85.00.

Dr. Zachariah D. Kuchta is a board certified Diagnostic Radiology who specializes in breast imaging. He graduated with honors from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, in 2013. Having more than 8 years of diverse radiology experiences, including completing a diagnostic radiology residency with Ohio University- HCOM in Columbus, OH, fellowship in breast imaging at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH, and two years of breast imaging experience at UPMC Hamot in Erie, PA.
