Memorial Health University Medical Center values the contributions of nurses at all skill levels. We also encourage career advancement. Our professional nursing ladder helps nurses grow and advance professionally while focusing on their clinical practice. The professional nursing ladder is designed to:

  • Recognize and reward clinical excellence and promote professional growth
  • Provide opportunities for professional nurses at the bedside to share their expertise at the unit and organizational levels
  • Enable professional nurses at the bedside to direct the practice of nursing at Memorial Health University Medical Center

There are four levels within the professional nursing ladder. Participation above the R.N. II level is voluntary. Performance expectations increase in scope and complexity from R.N. I to R.N. IV. To advance from one level to the next, nurses must submit an application that includes information such as proof of membership in nursing organizations, proof of research and/or ongoing education, and proof of exceptional performance in specified areas. By climbing the ladder, nurses empower themselves to control their careers and achieve specific goals.
