Surgical Critical Care Fellowship

Welcome to the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship Program at Memorial Health University Medical Center (MHUMC) - Mercer University School of Medicine in Savannah, Georgia. We appreciate your interest in our training program. We offer a one-year critical care fellowship that is focused on intense clinical experience. Our goals are to prepare the surgical intensivist to practice safe critical care with sound judgment, and to offer the education needed to pass the Certifying Examination in Surgical Critical Care of the American Board of Surgery.

Our seven core critical care faculty are double board-certified and trained at leading training institutions across the country. Our program is fully accredited by the ACGME residency review committee with 1 position per year.

The philosophy of the MHUMC Surgical Critical Care Fellowship program is to provide a setting in which advanced, highly skilled, adult education can take place. The faculty provides the opportunity for the fellow to not only acquire an in-depth knowledge of surgical critical care but also to develop both academically and professionally. We are committed to providing excellent clinical exposure, as well as directed, expert instruction, promoting self-directed education, and fostering the refinement of the fellow's academic pursuits.

Our didactic curriculum follows the surgical critical care curriculum from Scientific American. We provide process improvement education, multidisciplinary rounding experience, research possibilities, professional development and teaching opportunity. Our block schedule includes 10 months in our acute care surgical ICU and two months of elective.

Applicants should meet the following prerequisites:

• Completion of an ACGME-accredited General Surgery residency program
• Board eligibility or certification by the American Board of Surgery
• Interest in teaching of medical students and residents
