The General Surgery Residency Program at Memorial Health University Medical Center offers five categorical positions for the upcoming academic year. No preliminary positions are offered. Applications are accepted only through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Additional information regarding the program can be accessed via the American Medical Association's FREIDA Online.

Applicants should have graduated from medical school within the last two years (with the exception of active duty military service) and passed the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), Step 1 with a minimum score of 220 and Step 2 CK with a minimum score of 230 (passing on the first attempt for both steps of the USMLE). Applicants must be US citizen or permanent resident. Applications are accepted through ERAS and must include:

  • ERAS application form, including photo
  • Curriculum vitae
  • MSPE (dean’s letter)
  • Medical school transcript
  • Official transcripts of USMLE Steps 1, 2 CK and CS (allopathic and osteopathic applicants)
  • Personal statement
  • Three letters of recommendation (one letter from surgery program chair or director)

Applicants selected for an interview are contacted via email through the ERAS system to schedule a date for their interview. Interviews are scheduled on select Thursdays from November through early January each year. The application deadline is December 1.
